A North Carolina-based manufacturer has come up with an easy way to bring the look of concrete into kitchens and baths.

Merge Design Company has launched a line of large format slabs for its Extremeconcrete surfacing. Each 3-centimeter-thick slab is 60 by 108 inches, weighs approximately 14 pounds per square foot, and is available in a variety of colors and materials.

Slabs are easily fabricated and installed just like natural stone, the firm says, utilizing the same tools and techniques. Beccause of the large size of the slabs, there are less seams to deal with.

Extremeconcrete contains much as 85% recycled content diverted from waste streams, most of it sourced from within a 500 mile radius, making it eligible for LEED points, the company says.
