In the simplest sense, a home is a large product made up of many smaller products. The synergy and assembly of these products and their uses is what enables a finished house to perform as a home. The best products are manufactured to fit or exceed the needs, desires, and comfort of the people that live inside that home, and to ensure that the home’s builder can assemble the product quickly, easily, and at the most affordable cost.

For the second year in a row, BUILDER’s April issue highlights many of the newest home building products on the market, including information about the features that make them noteworthy. Style, safety, durability, and sustainability are among the biggest priorities in products this year—and the best of the best can lay claim to all four.

Our current favorites on the following pages range from energy-efficient tankless water heaters to stylish, low-maintenance surfacing to subflooring that can be tossed over a waterfall and survive unscathed. They include smart thermometers, smart dishwashers, stainless steel appliances, and aluminum extruded windows. Some are statement pieces made to be seen, while others are envelope or environmental components that homeowners will nonetheless appreciate.

While this is by no means an exhaustive list of the industry’s best, the following products exemplify the latest trends and greatest innovations that a newly constructed home can offer in 2018. Click on each category to learn more.
