Mi Casa Es Su Casa

Home builders with sales agents who speak Spanish will have a distinct advantage in the coming years as the Hispanic home buying market continues to expand. A study released in May by Texas A&M University’s Real Estate Center reported that 48 percent of Hispanics who do not own a home are likely to buy a house in the next 24 to 36 months—and, more than any other ethnic group, are uncomfortable doing business in English. The study, “Home Buying Among Ethnic Groups,” examines the attitudes and expectations about buying a home among Hispanics, whites, African Americans, and Asians. Hispanics had the least experience with real estate agents and the home buying process and, more than the other groups surveyed, thought it was difficult to qualify for a mortgage.
