Builder Shot

Shooter claims he acted in self-defense; builder dies from a single gunshot wound.

A home builder in Cobb County, Ga., was fatally shot Tuesday, Dec. 6, after a heated argument with a new homeowner turned ugly.

The slain builder was Brian Gregory Epp, 35, of Epp Elevations, based in Powder Springs, Ga. Epp was a home builder for the better part of his adult life. His company is a member of the Greater Atlanta HBA. The shooting took place at the Carriage Gates subdivision in Kennesaw, Ga., in the western portion of Cobb County.

Officer Wayne Delk of the Cobb County police said a dispute between Epp and the homeowner got physical and escalated to the point where the homeowner shot Epp with a handgun. Epp died at the scene at 1:30 p.m. from a single gunshot wound. The nature of the dispute has not been released.

On Dec. 8, Delk said Cobb County investigators had interviewed several eyewitnesses, and early indications were that the shooter may have acted in self-defense. The name of the shooter has not been released. Delk said police would complete the investigation sometime during the week of Dec. 12.

At press time no formal charges had been filed.
