HYLAND SOFTWARE OF WESTLAKE, OHIO, has made great progress during the past five to 10 years deploying document management systems with a select group of builders.

Hyland’s OnBase software is deployed at builders such as Brookfield Homes Southland, Costa Mesa, Calif.; John Wieland Homes, Atlanta; Murray Franklin Homes, Seattle; and Wayne Homes, Uniontown, Ohio. OnBase is used at some 4,800 companies in industries ranging from financial services to medical services to government agencies. The first builder to deploy

OnBase was Wayne Homes. The builder improved customer service by giving back-office workers and customer service people access to electronic versions of standard documents such as purchase orders, sales contracts, and warranty information. Wayne Homes also used OnBase to improve relations with subs.

In a more recent deployment, David Appleman, director of operating systems at Brookfield Homes Southland, says using OnBase has dramatically reduced the time it takes the company to process a variance purchase order.

“Before, it used to take 24 to 48 hours,” Appleman says. “Now, we can do it the same day.”
