The Blackout of 2003 and Hurricane Isabel’s wrath have homeowners looking to get gas-powered generators installed in their new homes. “Residential sales were good even before the blackout,” says Mike Carr, manager of marketing communications at Generac Power Systems of Waukesha, Wis., one of the nation’s largest manufacturers of gas-powered generators. “More and more, especially on high-end custom homes, standby generators are included.”
