Midtown Makeover

By R.E. Blake Evans Before leaving office, former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani unveiled a new blueprint for revitalizing Manhattan’s midtown section. Labeled Far West Midtown, the plan is a call to invigorate a 59-square-block zone from midtown to the Hudson River. “It’s bordered by some vibrant neighborhoods: Chelsea, midtown, and Clinton,” says Guiliani. The plan, begun long before Sept. 11, now takes on a more significant role in re-energizing the economy there. New multifamily housing and waterfront access are also in the plan.
