A national survey by the Mortgage Bankers Association earlier this year found that more than half of Americans planning to buy a house want more information about the process. The survey also said that 95 percent of respondents thought it was important to have access to information that was easy to understand. In late June, the association launched www.homeloanlearningcenter.com to help consumers sort out the details. The site covers such topics as renting versus owning, finding the right mortgage, and the importance of credit reports. Consumers can also research housing costs for their market, learn about Habitat for Humanity, file a complaint about a lender, and sign up for government assistance.
