A Good Coach

1 MIN READ

The Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC), a nonprofit group based in Chicago, has asked the city of Chicago to include provisions for coach housing in an upcoming rewrite of the city’s zoning code as a way to offer more low-cost housing options. The coach homes–homes built over a garage–would be built in neighborhoods with larger than average lots that primarily have single-family homes. Coach houses could not be sold separately, which means most would be rented out or used as a spare room. The MPC is working with the city to determine how many coach homes could be developed.
