Story time: The story-and-a-half Craftsman house is perfect in scale and style for an in-city Pacific Northwest neighborhood. A single-story facade is pedestrian friendly.
Block party: By eliminating a few roads, Bruskrud created a 50-by-100-foot common green to be shared by six homes. “Each gets a private backyard and great public space out front.”
Light-filled sitting area in master suite
Vaulted space over entry creates drama and connects upper and lower floors.
Loft space becomes den or getaway space with room for sofa and computer niche. Could be walled off as bedroom for boomerang child.
Large bathroom includes dramatic clawfoot soaking tub.
Windows provide light in the master bath, which is in the rear of the plan for privacy.
Additional guest bedroom or bonus room
To reduce wasted space, setback is limited to 8 feet from porch–plenty of room to use landscaping as a buffer from sidewalk yet small enough to be low maintenance.
Front porch provides buffer from sidewalk and outside room for socializing with neighbors.
Diagonal configuration opens views through room and expands visual space.
Private den is perfect for reading or watching television and could be converted to master suite as residents age.
Use easement increases usable yard space.
Large utility room has enough space to serve as mudroom.
Covered rear porch provides protection from Seattle drizzle.
Private courtyard
Garage is large enough for two cars as well as hobby and storage areas.
Alley-loaded garage improves streetscape and pedestrian environment.
